Mr. Nikos Nikiforos, Managing Director
Nikos Nikiforos has studied shipping in London and has 23 years of work experience in shipping. His expertise lies in the fields of chartering and commercial operations both in Greece and UK. From 1997 to 2008, he served as the Commercial Director of Oceanbulk Shipping and Trading S.A., the freight trading arm of the Oceanbulk Group of companies. During his time at Oceanbulk Shipping and Trading S.A., the company carried several million tons of cargo and employed hundreds of ships to perform contracts of affreightment. He also served as the Managing Director of Interchart Shipping Inc., a shipbroking firm which specializes in chartering dry cargo ships and serves as the exclusive chartering broker for the Oceanbulk Group. Mr. Nikiforos has been a member of the management team, serving as the Vice President of Business Development, that founded Star Bulk Carriers Corp., a company listed on NASDAQ.
Mrs. Christina Karalaki, Commercial Director
Christina has studied shipping in London and has a wealth of experience in commercial shipping gained through 24 years of employment by major companies in their fields both in Greece and UK. She has been a director of Oceanbulk Group since 1999, initially responsible for the commercial performance of a part of the managed fleet and later at Oceanbulk Shipping and Trading S.A. as general manager of the America’s trades and head of the regional offices of Brazil, Argentina and USA. She is responsible to identify and execute freight trading deals related to cargo transportation in the form of single shipments or contracts of affreightment using either owned or chartered in vessels and for the chartering-out to third parties of the time chartered-in vessels.
Mr. Antonis Varagkis, Chief Financial Officer
Antonis has a BA degree in Accounting and Finance from the Athens Economics University, Greece, a MSc degree in Finance from Lancaster University, UK, and a Diploma in Project Management from University of Bremen, Germany. He has worked as a CFO since 2001 for financial advisory and management firms offering services to a group of offshore Funds of Hedge Funds with more than USD 3 billion net assets under management. Prior to 2001, Antonis was deputy chief accountant and EU MIS administrator of the Athens Metro Construction and the chief accountant of the project manager for the Natural Gas Pipeline network of DEPA S.A.
Mr. Kyriakos Attikouris, Head of Risk Management
Kyriakos holds a BSc in Business Administration from the University of Aegean, Greece, an MBA in Finance from the Simon School of Business of the University of Rochester, USA, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematical Finance from the University of Oxford, UK. He is qualified as a certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM) by the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) and a certified Professional Risk Manager (PRM) by the Professional Risk Managers' International Association (PRMIA). Previously, he worked for the Global Shipping Division of Citibank, the Athens Derivatives Exchange Clearing House, and Systemic Risk Management. He is the founder of FreightMetrics, a specialized firm offering consulting and software development services related to shipping risk management and freight derivatives.
Mr Antonios Masselos - Marselos, Risk Management
Antonios, has a BA degree in Economical Studies from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and a MSc degree in Finance from Lancaster University, UK. He has worked as Head of the Risk Management and Derivatives Department since 2008 for the Prelium Securities S.A. Prior to 2008 he worked as a Derivatives Market Maker for Kyprou Securities and as fund manager for Kyprou AEDAK (both companies of the group of Bank of Cyprus) for more than 7 years. Since 2007 Antonios is teaching at the Athens Stock Exchange advanced topics of Financial Engineering, Derivatives and Risk Management in Shipping.
George Iatridis, Commercial Department
George holds an L.L.M in Maritime Law from Cardiff University and a BSc in Shipping and Transport from London Guildhall University. He started his career in shipping in 2004 as a shipbroker in Greece, handling dry bulk vessels ranging from handy up to panamax sizes and joined the commercial/chartering desks of Ariston Commercial Services in 2008.
Grammy Tsalapatani, Commercial Department
Grammy obtained her Diploma in Shipping from Morley College in London in early 90’s and she started her career in chartering, working for shipbroking firms in Greece. Then moved into the chartering department of a Shipowner handling handy/handymax ships. Grammy through her 19 years in shipping was also involved in bunker trading, freight collection and she is well conversant with the operation department. Grammy joined the commercial/chartering desks of Ariston Commercial Services in 2008.
